About Asian Grocery Atlanta

Every couple months, I get an insane craving for basil rolls. Take shrimp, rice noodles, a few leaves of fresh basil, and some bean sprouts (optional), and wrap them up in a moistened rice paper roll. Serve these with a mixture of hoisin and peanut sauce for the most dramatic effect. Normally, these types of rolls (unless you head down to some of the more entertaining shops on Buford Highway) are found for around $4.95 - and you might get two or three. Recently I got one of these cravings, but instead of stopping by the Saigon Cafe off of 92, my guy decided that he would learn how to make them at home.

So, he trooped off to the store and picked up shrimp, some lettuce, some rice noodles, and the whole shebang. He searched high and low to find the rice paper rolls, but wasn't able to get his hands on them at the local Ingle's. He decided to wait on making the rolls because we were going near an Asian grocery off of Old 41 in Acworth the next day. I was able to keep my craving at bay, because I knew that it would soon be satisfied.

When we went to the Asian grocery in Acworth, we found a for sale sign in the window, and the place was completely empty. Apparently, their lack of advertising had doomed them to a life of obscurity and lack of customers. There were other options available, but the craving had to wait another day. There was another place, a little further away (Dong Bang off of Highway 41) which we could go to.

Not to be thwarted, I did an search for Asian Grocery stores in Atlanta, hoping that I would magically find something that was on this side of town. We both liked Dong Bang, but we wanted to see what our options were. Both of us enjoy finding new places and sharing them with our friends - it was the perfect opportunity to do just that. When I did the search for Asian markets Atlanta, I found all types of stock market information. Asian grocery Atlanta brought me face to face with the Asian restaurants in the area. I found nothing useful. So, I decided to wait another day for Dong Bang.

After having a superior experience at Presto Latin Cantina off of Roswell Road (near the Big Chicken), we trooped off to go to Dong Bang - the very first Asian market that I went to when I got to this area. Unfortunately, we were greeted with another for sale sign, and a small notice for contractors and realtors. We were too late - there was no more Dong Bang. Disheartened, we went to Harry's Farmer's Market (a division of Whole Foods, just off of Roswell Road) and were able to find the rice wrappers that we needed.

I'm sure that there are other Asian grocery stores in Atlanta - ones which are out of the way, ones which are in places other than the 'usual' -- maybe some intrepid entrepreneur has set up shop in Cartersville or in Forest Park -- I wanted a directory of Asian grocery stores in Atlanta, couldn't find one, so made it myself. :)

Thank you for visiting. New content is being added all the time, so take a look around. :)
